The Ultimate Guide to a Top Decile UCAT Score

Want a top-decile UCAT score?

When I sat the UCAT, it genuinely felt like the test was designed for me to fail. But I went from being stuck in low scores for weeks to getting a top decile score. The UCAT is not about doing more questions - it’s about technique and skill.

So I’ve put everything I wish I knew into the UCAT Crash Course, which gives you all the essential tips and techniques you need to go on and smash the exam.

In a live 3-hour session, we cover the exact techniques for each subsection, go over how to revise for the UCAT, have an entire UCAT timeline provided and have discounted access to top resources. This will leave you feeling far more confident, prepared and ready to aim for that top score!

And if that wasn’t already jam-packed with top-decile scorer secrets, I’m giving all of this away for a price less than spending 1 hour with most UCAT tutors.

Medify vs Medentry

Which question bank is better? Are you more likely to get a top-decile score if you use one over the other? This has always been a big debate among UCAT applicants.

As someone who achieved a top-decile UCAT score and used both question banks, here’s my honest comparison.

I started my preparation with Medify and completed most of my practice questions there. Although it’s a strong platform, I found the questions noticeably harder than the official UCAT and UCAT mocks, which often left me scoring lower than expected.

Towards the end of my revision, I switched to Medentry. While I used it for a shorter period, I found the question style and difficulty much closer to my actual UCAT exam.

Ultimately, both are excellent question banks, and choosing one over the other won’t determine whether you achieve a top-decile score. My advice is to use the free trial for both, try the skills trainers and practice questions, and see which feels most representative of the official UCAT mocks.

From my experience, Medentry was the closer match to the real exam. If you decide to use it, you can use the discount code MEDWLOVE for 10% off.

The biggest UCAT mistake you could make

This was nearly the mistake I made in my UCAT preparation. And it can impact your entire score. It is essential that you give yourself time to learnt the correct techniques for UCAT. This is an aptitude test so you need to develop these skills over time. And the BEST way you can do that is by doing untimed practice. It sounds weird that doing untimed questions can help you when the UCAT is one of the most time-constrained exams you will probably end up doing.

The reason untimed practice is so important is that it actually gives you time to put into practice the essential techniques for each of the question times. BY doing the questions with no time pressure you not panicking, making silly mistakes or picking up bad habits. Below I have curated a 6 week UCAT timetable to help guide you. But if you actually want to learn exactly how to revise for the UCAT with even more detailed sample UCAT timetables, teaching on every section and more, join the UCAT Crash Course!

🗓️ Week 1: Learn the Techniques

  • Start by watching tutorials and strategy videos for each section.
  • Focus on learning how to answer the questions

🧠 Weeks 2–3: Untimed Practice = Strong Foundations

  • Now that you know the techniques, it’s time to apply them in untimed conditions.
  • Focus on getting most questions right. You want to feel confident before introducing time pressure.

⏱️ Weeks 3–5: Timed Practice + Smart Review

  • Once you are getting the majority of questions correct in untimed practice, begin timed practice sessions.
  • After each session, review your mistakes carefully through reflection
  • Revisit the relevant tutorials to strengthen weak spots.

🧪 Weeks 6–7: Mock Exams + Targeted Refinement

  • Aim to do a full mock exam every day for 1-2 weeks before your exam day
  • After completing each mock, review the mistakes in depth through effective reflection
  • From this, make an Anki or flashcard deck or a document which has all of your incorrect questions on it and review this document regularly
  • Do timed questions on your specific weaker areas to improve on these
