Your notes are probably useless
It sounds harsh but if you were being honest, how often do you actually look back on or use your notes? You probably spend loads of time in lessons or poring over textbooks trying to create the perfect set of detailed notes. But when exam time comes around, do you actually find them useful to revise from? I used to feel stuck, too. I spent lots of time making notes for all my subjects, only to not use them ever again. I felt like I had to make notes because it was the “right thing” to do, and it felt productive. But I knew that this method wasn’t working.
This is a problem many of us have, and I realised that by making a small change, my notes could become the most powerful tool. And it only requires a very simple, small change: changing the format of your page. Split your page vertically and in the left column, phrase your subheading as a question. Then, in the column next to it, write the content. This small change creates a powerful mental shift, as writing your subheading as a question subconsciously triggers active recall. Your notes stop being a passive read-through and instead become a built-in quiz. To help you transform your note-taking style so you can unlock your full academic potential, I have created a notes template just for you!
